Step-by-Step Guide to Apply for the Cycle to Work Scheme

- Choose Your Bicycle and Equipment:

Start by selecting a bicycle and any necessary safety equipment (such as helmets, lights, and locks) from a participating retailer. You can include both traditional and electric bikes under this scheme.

- Obtain a Quotation:

Request a detailed quotation from the retailer. This quotation should list the cost of the bike and any additional equipment you've chosen. Ensure that the total cost does not exceed the scheme's limit of €1,250 for a bicycle and safety equipment, or €1,500 if you're purchasing an electric bike, or €3,000 if you're purchasing a cargo bike.

- Submit Your Quotation to Your Employer:

Provide the quotation to your employer. Your employer will need this to pay the retailer directly under the scheme.

- Salary Sacrifice Agreement:

You and your employer will enter into a 'salary sacrifice' arrangement, typically lasting up to 12 months. During this period, you agree to forego a portion of your pre-tax salary to cover the cost of the bike. This process allows you to save on tax and PRSI

- Payment and Collection:

Once the agreement is in place, your employer will make the payment directly to the retailer. You can then collect your bike and start enjoying the benefits of cycling to work.
