The Zipp ZR1 hubset was developed as an upgraded hubset for Zipp’s pro-proven Firecrest wheel lineup, with engineering support from SRAM’s development center in Schweinfurt, Germany. The ZR1 features an improved seal design for increased durability and a quicker response with 66 points of engagement. Zipp engineers spent more than two years developing the ZR1, with durability testing that included more than 58,500 km of test riding as part of 3,222 hours of total testing. The hubset incorporates key technology from Zipp’s Cognition hubs, including a large dust cap at the base of the driver body and improved bearing seals for additional protection. The bearing size is also the same as the Cognition hub, although the Cognition uses a premium bearing.

The ZR1 uses a seal design focused on improved protection and durability, while its hub construction features an aluminum hub shell with angled flanges and fully machined construction. Zipp hubs are designed for J-bend spokes, which are widely available and easier to replace. This front hub features a TA 12x100 axle, 28 spoke holes, a Center Lock disc brake interface, aluminum axle construction, and cartridge steel bearings. It is also e-bike certified and available as part of the ZR1 disc and rim brake hubset range.
